Discarded Fabrics
Discarded Fabrics is composed of several pieces of scrap material which were found around my Nani’s (grandmother’s) house. Coming from a tailoring family the patchwork tapestry pays homage to my grandparents and their utilisation of discarded fabrics – they were the original sustainable Darji’s (tailors/clothes makers). Projected onto the patchwork tapestry is a picture of my grandparents from the 1960s. The idea behind this was to show that regardless of generational changes in trade (shown through the distortion of the image), me and my family have inherited a culture of resourcefulness which I believe will be passed down to future generations.
