Kediyuu
Kediyuu is an exploration into how past and present concepts on fashion in Western India have been gendered through 500 years European colonialism. Composed of an assortment of modules and extensions, what is formed is a loose imagining of a traditional rural garment which embodies western conceptions of “feminine” structures. The audience are invited to interact with the piece, to take apart the modules and place them on to the garment as they see fitting. They are prompted to engage with the following notions: gender fluidity (the intersecting nature of masculinity and femininity), categorisation through gender: “Expansion or Marginalisation,” and the pieties of imperialism.
